In this release we've added the ability to conduct a "What-less" search and added support for SSL to the API as well as making significant improvements to the relevancy of search results.

See the release notes for a complete list of changes in this release. Follow us on Twitter or engage with other API users through the API forum.

So, what’s coming next?

Take a look at the following functionality that will be coming over the next few months:

  • ongoing relevance enhancements
  • better aggregation / removal of duplicate listings
  • inclusion of detail around areas that different businesses service (rather than simply where they are located). There’s some real application opportunities here, particularly around mobile-businesses.
  • a mechanism to assist users in refining their searches
  • service monitoring dashboard
  • capacity improvements
  • inclusion of ratings and reviews data
  • inclusion of POI data
  • enhancements to developer tools
  • cleaner JSON response

If you have any ideas on how you’d like to see us tackle the above enhancements, we’d love to hear from you. And of course, should you have any feature requests of your own, please contact us at any time or share with all via the API Forum.

Open Beta

May 11th, 2011

We are excited to announce that we are opening our doors to anyone who is interested in using our API. As part of moving out of the closed beta (invite only) phase of our journey, we have deployed a number of new features that we think will enhance the apps you can build and deploy.

These features include the ability to filter your results by a particular business category or to restrict your search result set to a specific geographical area. You will also notice we now have separate Test and Production services so we can better support your initiatives. All the information you need to deliver our reporting needs is now available and documented for you.

When you get a moment why not check out our new API Explorer, where you can interrogate our data and review its structure without having to go to the trouble of building an application.

You can read the full release notes on our forum and find out more about the differences between the Test and Production services in our documentation.

Of course, should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
